Friends.

Trent Reznor and longtime collaborator Atticus Ross recently announced that they are just finishing the score to The Social Network, the David Fincher directed, Aaron Sorkin penned film that recounts the founding of Facbook and the legal battles that ensued. Most people get hung up on the fact that there’s even a “Facebook Movie” being made (which is stupid as the story behind the world’s arguably biggest website is utterly fascinating). But let me remind them of one thing:

Trent Reznor is scoring a film.

The talent behind this thing is unbelievable . If you’re not excited, you should probably go to the movies this weekend. The Last Airbender is out. It’s probably more your speed.

Take a listen to NIN’s “Ghosts I-IV” when you get a second. Might give you an idea of how ill this score is going to be.

Apologize, Dammit!

Arcade Fire just announced today via their website that the third album, The Suburbs, will be released in August. That’s great news for everybody who likes great music performed by people who dress like they work in a funeral home.

However, as a result, I’m starting an “Apology Initiative,” whereas the entirety of Arcade Fire must issue apologies to the excellent bands who have produced records this year that will no doubt suffer greatly under the shadow of The Suburbs.

This is Happening? More like it already happened and nobody cares come August! Am I right? Guys? Fuck.

But really, Win Butler. Send apology letters to: LCD Soundsystem, MGMT, Beach House, Wolf Parade, The National (I don’t like ‘em, but some folks do), The Morning Benders, Gorillaz, Liars, and Crystal Castles. You could try sending one to Broken Social Scene, but those fucking hippies don’t check their mail.

It’s like when Radiohead releases a record. Sure we get psyched around these parts. But think of the poor bastards who have to try and compete with that!

Summer just got a whole lot cooler.

New Arcade Fire, anyone?

Tip of the hat to my buddy Chad for sending me this link to 107.7’s website. They’re streaming the two new tracks from Arcade Fire’s yet-to-be-released (or, maybe already released in some places) single.

Click here to check out Month of May and The Suburbs.

Are they good?  Let’s just say I’m typing this article up with my boner.

New Music: Doe Deer

Did you get out to Record Store Day yesterday? If you did, I hope you were lucky enough to grab one of the limited 12″ singles Crystal Castles released as a tease to their forthcoming album (out June 8 from Fiction). This shit is fucking mayhem yo.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Happy Record Store Day!

Stop listening to that stolen copy of This Is Happening for two minutes and support your local indie shops!

Stealing Music is Illegal

But, just an fyi. The new LCD Soundsystem record, This is Happening, has leaked and is all over the internetz.

Wait! There’s more! Forgiveness Rock Record, the new album from Broken Social Scene, is also floating around out there. Good gravy! I feel like I just got infected with smallpox. In a good way. (What?)

Remember, it’s illegal and highly irresponsible to go out and steal music. But I also know it’s tough to wait for such awesomeness to land in a record store. So, faithful Hood Rich-ians, promise me that if you go out and download these records, you’ll also go buy them when they come out. Deal?

Do with this information what you will. Just don’t download a trans-code. Tony will make fun of you. He’s a fucking snob.

They’re Back…

Like Randy Quaid in that movie with the Aliens. You know, when he’s the drunk pilot, or whatever, and he flies the plane right into the middle and the thing blows up and right when he’s flying up it he goes “Hello Boys! I’m Baaacccckkkk!”

Well, that’s what the members of Wolf Parade are doing right now. Flying their planes into evil alien spaceships. Or something. Whatever.

Long story short: Wolf Parade’s third album is dropping this summer. It’s called Expo 86. Who knows what that means? Who cares? It’s a new Wolf Parade album, dammit!

Pitchfork has the scoop and an interview with Dan Boeckner (aka the tall, skinny one).

Let’s celebrate. Take it away, Sons and Daughters.

Dear Sons and Daughters of Hungry Ghosts

Fuck. Yes.

New LCD Soundsystem premiered over at One Thirty BPM today. Then Pitchfork got a better copy of it. I hate to link to those fucks but it’s definitely awesome. We still have no idea what the album, due May 15th on DFA, is called. But who gives a shit. Behold the Drunk Girls.

Movie Music That Doesn’t Suck

This is kind of a sneak attack post. It’s a little old, only contains about a minute of music, and is mostly movie centric.

But I don’t give a shit because it’s pretty damn cool.

Linked below is the new trailer for “Tron : Legacy” (starring none other than Jeff “The Dude” Oscar Winner Bridges). At about the half-way point, you can hear some quick excerpts from the score Daft Punk wrote for the film. It sounds big, loud and amazing.

Also…the movie looks fucking awesome.

Enjoy.
