Decade Retrospective: Year 2009
This is a bit of a false entry, in a way. It’s false because I’ve already written about my top album of the year and I don’t want to go into detail about it again and bore the shit out of you. To me, the best album of the year was the gorgeous, well-crafted literary concept record Hospice by The Antlers.
Instead, I’m just going to talk about a few other highlights from the year. It’s been a decent year for music; mostly good records speckled with some really special ones, and also a few overrated guys thrown into the mix. But this is a time for celebration, so we won’t talk overrated. We’ll just talk about the good shit.
Top albums (other than Hospice) after the jump. Continue reading…

Decade Retrospective: Year 2008
No contest for this one. As in, it took my a few hours on each of my previous posts, sorting and thinking and figuring out which album was strongest and best represented what I thought was a top album of the year, while also trying to remember if it was my favorite at the time. For 2008, though, there was only one record that caught serious rotation on the ol’ turntable.
And, no, it’s not fucking Hercules and Love Affair. That shit is a vile heap of retarded suckitude.
Who else could it be, other than the subject of my weeks-long, hope-on-the-horizon Hiatus Watch? TV on the Radio’s Dear Science is easily the best album of 2008 and makes a strong push for top honors of the decade. Continue reading…
Happy Holidays
Hey I know we like to have alot of fun here on $$$$, but we just wanted to wish everyone a happy holiday!
Be safe, have fun, stay classy.
Essential Mix
With the holidays fast approaching, alot of you will be off from your normal routine. For some it might be due to traveling, or maybe you have some family coming into town. Regardless we will all need that one thing to hold us over, jams.
Recently a friend has shown me a new radio program out of London called BBC Radio 1 – Essential Mix. This weekly radio show has been running since before most of us had a mustache, yes, im talking about 1993. Over the years this two hour long program has had appearances by some pretty well known artists including: Daft Punk, Basement Jaxx, Moby, Felix Da Housecat, Fatboy Slim, and Paul Van Dyk. Needless to say, its a gold mine of amazing.
So while things might slow down due to the holidays, we wanted to make sure we had you guys covered. After the jump I have included some of my favorites as well as links to download tons of the mixes for free. You can also follow us on twitter for some jams we post for our followers.
Edit: Seems that my host isnt liking the fact that I want to stream 100mb+ files on my server. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Decade Retrospective: Year 2007
Christmas came early in 2007. As an avid fan of theirs, I’d been waiting years since they released new tracks on their tours to finally get wind of an album being released. Turns out, I got the news and the album all in about a week.
I’m talking of course about Radiohead’s unorthodox release of the brilliant follow-up to Hail to the Thief, In Rainbows. I remember working one of my insane college shifts, from 4 to 8 in the morning, when I read the news on some sort of fucking website. I nearly lost my shit when I found out that not only were they releasing an album, but it’d be a “pay what you want” model and it was coming out within two weeks, direct to my computer. FUCK ME!
This is the second entry for Radiohead, so go ahead and accuse me of being a homer. Or, not really a homer, because we’re not from the same hometown. Biased, perhaps? Beating a dead horse, because everyone knows they’re really fucking good? Also fair. But, like it or not, this is undoubtedly the top album of 2007 for multiple reasons. Continue reading…
Decade Retrospective: Year 2006
I’ve always considered myself something of a Pittsburgh resident, even though I grew up in the suburbs near Philly. My folks are from Uniontown and I was raised to love the Pens and the Steelers as my friends made fun of me for refusing to root for the Eagles, led by black-Irishman Donovan McNabb. As a result, getting out here and going to CMU and moving to Lawrenceville post-college always felt like something of a homecoming.
Still, I have a real Philly bias when it comes to the town I grew up near, and that comes through in music. Philly always churns out some good music. Most of it just happens to be hip-hop. But, when I got wind of a group of folks with moustaches and beards who banged on pianos and percussion instruments while crooning lyrics about being broke as shit and heartbroken, I took notice. Particularly when I found out they were from Philly.
There were a lot of great records released in 2006, specifically Return to Cookie Mountain and Silent Shout, but for me the top album came from the big top inspired, impoverished influenced Man Man. Six Demon Bag is the fucking tits. Continue reading…
