Welcome Back

Pretty Tony hit up some sweet new design elements. And I’m finally shaking off the holiday rust. I very seriously raped my insides this weekend, and I apologize for taking some time off.

As for posts, I’ll deliver a Hiatus Watch sometime this afternoon/early evening, so stay tuned. For now, indulge in what I ended up doing this entire weekend: consume mind-altering substances, sit on a comfortable chair, and play this track on repeat:

Strip Steve – ‘Breakin’ + Updates

Hey kids! Hope everybody had an awesome Thanksgiving! Some of you might notice that we made a few upgrades to the site recently. We have added a new side column called “Weekly Top Artists” as well as a “Written by” notification for our posts.

Here is a recently released video from Strip Steve who had an EP drop on Boys Noize Records not too long ago. Pretty tasty.

What?! – Major Lazer

… and the craziest video you will probably see today goes to Major Lazer.

Introducing: CFCF

I was recently looking for some new material when I came across the artist CFCF. Its pretty amazing.

What Last.fm had to say:

Michael Silver (aka CFCF) is one of those rare talents to whom pop sensibility seems to be second nature. The Montreal native has been making music in his bedroom since he was 12 years old, but it’s only over the past year or so that the rest of the world has been able to share in his pop experiments. Despite having just exited his teenage years, CFCF has a musical depth that constantly surprises his elders with influences ranging from Jellybean and Pete Rock to Todd Rundgren and Fleetwood Mac.

Pitchfork had this to say about his his recent release Continent:

…by employing a bit of listener fortitude, you’ll hopefully unlock the vibrancy that lies at Continent’s core and defines it as the sure-footed, elegantly stated electro-pop record it most certainly is.

Don’t Believe the Hype, Ep. 3

This week’s column concerns an album that’s a bit more of an “instant” classic, and by instant, I mean the past two years. It was released in fall of 2007, so it’s a bit more recent than our previous installments, but there’s good reason for it.

As it’s the end of the decade, every cunt with access to a pen and paper is making their “Best of the Decade” lists and I’ve noticed something on all of these lists that’s been a bit disturbing: the presence of Animal Collective’s Merriweather Post Pavilion. Now, it’s not because this is a less-than-stellar album. Far from it. Merriweather is a brilliant album (although I usually contend that it’s difficult to properly judge an album within the first year of its release, therefore making its presence on a decade list somewhat troubling). It’s disappointing because of a notable absence on just about every list I’ve seen: their previous (and much better) album, Strawberry Jam.

hype-3

Strawberry Jam is suffering from a post-hype machine hangover, struggling to get out of the shadow of its excellent successor. But, that’s why I’m here. To make sure you don’t get caught up in the critical circle-jerk and remember to enjoy the great shit that doesn’t get the treatment it deserves. Continue reading…

New Four Tet; What more do you want?

Outside of the wonderful collab with Burial, we haven’t heard much from Four Tet in a while.  Well, the time has come.  Kieran Hebden has been slowly moving towards more floor friendly material and this single is only slightly different.  Remember Pockets and Ringer?  Four Tet meets 4-on-the-floor techno.

four-tet

This track is an extension on that work.  It’s not exactly going to torch all the dancefloors, but it will groove your headphones like there’s no tomorrow.  There is some clear dubstep influence in Love Cry and I couldn’t be happier.  It’s a slow burner, so make absolutely sure you stick around til the 4:26 mark.  Killer Joy Orbison remix after the jump.

TV on the Radio Hiatus Watch, Week 3

Ryan Gosling is a total candy-ass.

I don’t mean that. He seems like a decent enough dude, I suppose, and he’s a solid enough actor. I’ve never wanted to punch him in any of his roles. Except for Remember the Titans. I wanted to punch him then. He looked like a total doucher in that movie. Plus, everyone was being racist so my blood was already a-boilin’.

tv-radio-ep1

But that main reason I hate Gosling isn’t because of anything he’s done. It’s because my girlfriend wants to bone him. Like legit animalistic boning. So I have to pretend I hate him to uphold the image: I don’t approve of your desire to bone this total lose-box. It gives me great pain, then, that Gosling’s band is the subject of this week’s TVOTR Hiatus Watch. Dead Man’s Bones is pretty legit, the album is awesome, and it makes my girlfriend want to bone him even more. FUCK! Continue reading…

NY Club/Rock/Electro/House Duo “Designer Drugs” has enough music in their arsenal to get you pregnant with awesome. Currently deep into their North American Riot tour, they have a few stops left until they touch down Thursday Dec 3rd at the Brillobox in Bloomfield. DD has been full throttle as of late keeping it hot with countless remixes and a jamming EP, and it doesn’t seem like they are going to stop anytime soon.
